Davie bowie
David started karate in Kilmarnock at the age of 9 and stuck at it for about a year and a half before realising that it was not the sport for him. It was another year and a half before he walked in to the Galston Powerhouse which is where he met senior instructor Alan Currie who was teaching there at the time. David by his own admission was weighing more in tonnes rather than stones at this time.
Undeterred by this, David stuck in and followed Alan to numerous classes around Ayrshire keen to learn the art of Muay Thai boxing which seemed more suited to his temperament it helped him to gain more confidence.
Before long David had started grading and was eager to learn more and said that one day he would become an instructor (red arm band). This proved to be true and now David teaches in the Wossobama gym along with Alan and Ally. He also has classes throughout Kilmarnock in which he teaches the art of Muay Thai to many others who are keen to learn no mater sex, height or shape.
David has had many interclub fights over the years but did not have full contact fights until last year. This was due to his weight, which is now not as much of a hurdle for David. His full contact fight record is now two fights, two wins. His first fight weighing in at 75kg and the second at 71kg.
David takes a lot to do with the first time graders at the Wossobama Gym. He is also a qualified gym instructor enabling him to give good safe advice on training toning.
